Rochester General Hospital
Integration of Two New ORs for Laparoscopic and Orthopedic Surgery

VTS designed and integrated two new 600 sq. ft. state-of-the-art operating rooms to perform laparoscopic and orthopedic surgery with the goal of doubling the number of laparoscopic procedures performed in a day and reducing the time to perform other surgical procedures by 25%. The value proposition to Rochester General is the ability to schedule twice the number of procedures and reduce the time of each procedure, as well as the time between procedures, by integrating equipment, personnel and technology into one efficient system.

These rooms also include the integration of advanced video conferencing between the ORs, conference rooms and destinations outside the facility.

VTS’ integrated system removes the requirement for equipment carts and the associated electrical and interconnecting cords; the lights and equipment are suspended from the ceiling. This prevents doctors and nurses from tripping on cords and bumping into each other which minimizes the chance of possible contamination, providing improved patient safety.

All the lights and equipment in the new rooms are controlled by a touch screen, so nurses are able to spend more time with the patient before surgery, instead of maneuvering and turning on the machines in preparation of the procedure.
