Digital Video Recorder (DVR)

The ability to capture digital images during cases is becoming a requirement for patient record information, consultation, teaching and legal.

The basic requirement is to capture still and streaming images of the view as seen by the endoscopic camera.  Physicians generally require that the image control come from “buttons” contained on the endoscopic camera.  Although some physicians prefer that the start/stop control come from a foot pedal and/or touch screen control.

In addition, with the advent of High Definition endoscopic cameras, physicians want the captured and stored images from a case to be in high definition as well so that when the images are played back and displayed as part of a teaching case, the resolution displayed is at the same resolution originally viewed during the procedure.

Another basic requirement is that the streaming images from the case which are subsequently written to a DVD for off-line retention are written quickly so that when the procedure is finished, and the procedure room is being prepared for the next case, finalizing the DVD does not delay the room turnover time.
